Shadow Play

Let’s take the car
And drive on for hours
Forget who we are
And where we came from

No hopes or plans
Just an ongoing motion
No sense of reason
But sheer emotion

Drive for hours and hours
Into the bright light
For hours and hours
Away from the night

Is there life on earth?
We cannot be sure
It’s all a shadow play
With actors gone astray

The audience has left
The stage is empty
Only puppets with strings
To hang themselves

Drive for hours and hours
Into the bright light
For hours and hours
Away from the night

A deserted road,
Endless rocks and sky
Finally, we are on our own
At the end of the world

The last rays of sunshine
To warm our cold skins
Before the clouds come
And drive it all away

Drive for hours and hours
Into the bright light
For hours and hours
Away from the night

Body and Mind

Things are never what they seem
Are we awake, when we dream?
We enchant the world with words
Clearly spoken, barely heard

A tongue as sharp as a knife
To cut through the wrists of life
Veins filled with hope and pain
Till it starts bleeding again

Let me make this clear,
I don’t mean to be unkind
I never loved you for your body,
Only for your mind

We play our little games of chess
Break the rules, who could care less
What other people think we are
Waterdrunk flies stuck in a jar

We are living our high life
United as husband and wife
Under the tyranny of thought
It was just comfort we sought

Let me make this clear,
I don’t mean to be unkind
I never loved you for your body,
Only for your mind

Born a woman with a man’s will
Determined to fight and to kill
Everyone who stands in the way
Ultimately will have to pay

Your fingers are so delicate
And a smile so desperate
May I enter your body, please
To put my troubled mind at ease?

Let me make this clear,
I don’t mean to be unkind
I never loved you for your body,
Only for your mind

Wilde at Heart

It was not love that brought us together
Just a mutual fascination that couldn’t last
A shallow crush that would evaporate
Like sweat-drops on a feverish body

In the reign of the sublime
There is no good or evil
Our only sin was to give in
To the pleasures of the flesh

Did you hate the world so much
Did you hate yourself so much
That you had to spoil the minds
Of men who should have known better?

I was not brought up in the libertarian way
But now I am, now I am
Freedom makes us slaves of desire
And I longed for you, no doubt

I can’t stand to see you fall,
I can’t stand to see you rise
Could beauty have purified our lost souls?
Anyway, it would have vanished in the end

Did you hate the world so much
Did you that yourself so much
That you had to spoil the minds
Of men who should have known better?

Let nature have its course
Until our very destruction
Let nature have its cruel course
Till life’s bitter end

And I will leave this world alone
I will leave this world alone alone

Old Actor

Old actor, your play is over
The time has come to reveal
What you really and truly are
Underneath the paint on your face

Finally, the day has come
To live a life of your own
You have animated words of others
Now, you must speak for yourself

Old actor, your play is over now
Take off your worn-out masks
One by one by one
And show us your real face

A lover of metaphor and irony
You became the star of the scene
People admired your clever speech
Keenly you spoke in other people’s tongues

Every role, you played so well
From Faust to Iago to Caligary
And the blood that ran through your veins
It never was your own, only on rent

Old actor, your play is over now
Take off your worn-out masks
Piece by piece by piece
And show us your flesh and bones

Please, take a look in the mirror
And see what time has done
To your fine, malign face
It is all wrinkles and wraths now

Time has not been kind to you
Time never is, except to the blessed
So throw these clothes away
Silently, unwrap your naked body

Old actor, your play is over now
Take off your worn-out masks
Step by step by step
And show us the face of decay
